melissa is a lovely photographer who was nice enough to stand and be the model for both her boyfriend and i.

the orchards were the perfect setting for her.

my new baby

i finally replaced my medium format film camera.

and in the process upgraded a little.

i just finished the 1st roll of color and loaded a roll of black and white.

tomorrow to the orchards.

and hopefully sometime soon, all these rolls of film will go to the developer.

i can't wait to see the results.

reflections

ok, so maybe this is another advantage to late night at the opera.

i have always loved that we have a river running thru downtown chicago, the view from the brown line as you cross the river is one of my favorite chicago moments.

and to see it at night is especially lovely.

the last bit of light

i arrived home just in time to sit in this perfect puddle of light.

fall brings some of my favorite light, cool weather, and the most beautiful, crisp smell in the air.

obsessed with the sky

the sky has been spectacular this summer.

maybe it's always this amazing, and i'm just noticing it a lot lately.

but some of my most peaceful moments this summer have been sitting in my backyard watching the sky change as the sun sets.

so beautiful.

so breathtakingly astounding.

it makes me feel lucky to get to experience it.

thank goodness for willing friends.

i love taking portraits. i think people are incredibly beautiful in all of their various incarnations, and i like capturing a moment of them.

but i have yet to be able to walk up to a perfect stranger and ask to take their photograph.

even being comfortable asking my friends is only a recent occurrence.

but i hope that the more and more of my friend's portraits i take, the better i'll get.

at capturing a moment of a person.

at asking someone to pose for me.

at just taking pictures in general.

and i know that with confidence i get bolder.

so to my friends and family who let me be truly annoying and stick a camera in your face,

thank you.

i'm not sure why

do you ever have photos that you're just not sure why you like them?

this would be one of them for me.

not focused on anything really, accidentally framed, and taken in the moment as i was trying to photograph friends playing soccer. mostly, just practicing following people with my camera.

and yet this one turns out to be one of my favorite photos of the day.

it is one of things i love about film, and why i try never to delete any digital photos until after i download them.
